Usenet Newsreader Benchmark
measure and evaluate the performance of newsgroup servers
Usenet Newsreader Benchmark ("usemark") is a tool for benchmarking and evaluating news servers. You configure Usemark for the news server that you wish to test, and it will connect to that news server and download some test articles, recording the performance (throughput and latency) of that news server.

I've compiled a few measurements of some newsgroup servers (comcast/giganews, supernews, and newsguy) that I have access to. All three did well, but you can visit the page and see the whole results for yourself.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and so here is a screen
shot of the program in operation, so you can see how it connects to and benchmarks the performance of a usenet news server:

The main screen has some buttons that control the software. You push the <Config> button to enter the host name and account settings of your server.
Then, press the <Start> button to begin benchmarking.
