definition: posting to newsgroups

In order to share content with other users, you may wish to "post" a file to a newsgroup. Posting is a feature that is included in many downloader programs (such as QuadNews and Android). There are also special-purpose posting programs such as the popular "Power Poster".

Posting can be a complex process depending on what you want to post. Newsgroup servers generally place a limit on how "large" a message can be, and that limit is usually somewhere in the neighborhood of about a megabyte. If you want to post a file that is larger than a megabyte, then you'll need to use a program that can automatically split the large file into several pieces. The posting component built into Android Newsgroup Downloader, for example, features a wizard that will guide you through posting a large multi-part file.
