NewsgroupDownloaders.com Illustrated glossary:
newsreader
definition: newsreader
A "newsreader" is a program used to retrieve and view files that are posted
on newsgroups. Technically, there is a difference between a "newsreader" and a
"newsgroup downloader". A newsreader is often used when you wish to read the
textual part of a message, and a newsgroup downloader is used when you want to
download a binary file form one of the alt.binaries newsgroups.
Many newsgroup downloaders (such as
Android and
QuadNews) have newsreader
capability built into them. That is, they have an interface that allows you to
read articles and reply to them. Having newsreader capability in a downloader is
useful, as it allows you to join into the discussions, post requests, etc.
